Arrrgghh! I was still using NV3_GDI_RECTANGLE_TEXT instead of NV4_GDI_RECTANGLE_TEXT on pre-NV40 (NV11 tested). Fixed now.
Anyway: Now we know the reason the switch must be made: the old command, while being approx. of the same speed as the new one, has a hardware fault and has also therefore been removed in NV40 and later hardware. The fault is the input->output colorspace conversion which doesn't work while being used with DMA acc.
