Rene Gollent 14df3c2bed Various tweaks - 1) while enqueued, keep track of which run queue a thread is in on the scheduler data structure, and use this information so that set_thread_priority doesn't have to search every CPU to find the thread. Also slightly tweak the enqueue and steal operations to take advantage of some of the stats we're now tracking, and experiment with variable quantum sizes for low priority CPU bound threads. Still lots of work to do with respect to balancing and/or affinity though.

Rene Gollent 6ad5d4edc0 dump_run_queue() now outputs the average quantum usage for threads as well. Not quite formatted properly due to what appear to be limitations in kprintf's handling of float format specifiers. Need to investigate.

Rene Gollent 8e26769c8b Patch by Bryce Groff: add line number display to StyledEdit. Fixes ticket #2623. It does however expose an interesting curiosity in BTextView - CurrentLine() does not count a line until it's actually had some text put into it (i.e. simply hitting enter at the last line of the doc does not increment the number that CurrentLine() returns. Is this an oversight or does R5 behave this way also?

Rene Gollent 076cc460a0 Have BFS create the BEOS:APP_SIG index by default also. Otherwise launching applications by signature off any partition other than one created via the build system will fail by default (since that one currently adds the index manually in build_haiku_image).

Rene Gollent 24fde47c7a Introduce an experimental new scheduler intended to work fundamentally the same as our existing one, but with various optimizations to better handle the SMP case: 
1) We now maintain a runqueue per CPU, rather than a single global shared queue. Idle threads are segregated into their own queue for simplicity.
2) Enqueueing threads is now somewhat more intelligent - if the thread is pinned, it is always enqueued onto that core. Otherwise we enqueue it on whichever CPU it previously ran, unless it either hasn't run before, or that core has been disabled via ProcessController. If so, we try to enqueue it on whichever core has been the most idle recently.
3) The above allow various simplifications to thread scheduling. Pinned threads and/or disabled cores are now no longer special cases that need to be dealt with. If a CPU has no threads ready, it looks for another one to steal a thread from, though that part still needs some tuning along with enqueueing for load balancing purposes.

The chief aim here is better load balancing and support for soft affinity. However, at the moment the overall behavior still exhibits some regressions compared to the old scheduler, so it's disabled by default. If you wish to experiment/debug with it, instructions for enabling it can be found in scheduler.cpp. Much thanks to Ingo, Axel and everyone who's helped with either code review/advice or testing so far.

Rene Gollent 12c0fc92e1 Somewhat adjusted the behavior of the volume slider. It now stays up when initially clicked and requires a second mouseclick to begin tracking it. This prevents abrupt volume changes as would be seen if you had previously turned down the volume and then invoked the volume control again (it would immediately jump to whatever level the mouse cursor happened to be at when the slider popped up). This fixes ticket #3570.

Rene Gollent f528e1ad7a Fix two more problems in the messaging service: 
1) When searching the area for a place to allocate the next command, the case of the first command being the same as the last command (as is the case after adding the first message) was not correctly considered. This prevented a given area from ever containing more than one command.
2) The size of a command was incorrectly word-aligned. Rather than aligning to 32-bit boundaries, the size was truncated to between 1-3 bytes, leading to command corruption once multiple messages were in the area, eventually causing registrar to crash while retrieving the messages.

Combined these two changes result in us no longer constantly allocating/destroying areas during heavy node monitor activity.

Rene Gollent 38f4625170 Rework this again due to flaws in the previous optimization - due to its use for things like sorting the visible pose list, it would rely on whatever pose column was being used for sorting, and as such would generate false positives when the view was being ordered by certain attributes. We now use an std::hash_set to track all the nodes that have been added to the current view and use that for a duplicate check instead. Also slightly boost the max number of models per chunk that we read.

Rene Gollent 75d1cb286f The loop that looks for the next area to add a message to has a somewhat fatal flaw: it checks for a non-zero area size (which is always set to the physical size of the area rather than the number of message commands stored within it). As a consequence, areas would never get cleaned up once allocated, which lead the kernel to steadily bleed memory if any reasonable level of node monitoring activity was going on. We now check whether or not the area's command count is non-zero instead, and use that as the criteria for selection. Fixes ticket #3518.

Rene Gollent 847af0079c Second attempt at PoseView population optimizations: We still search for the pose in our list, but now rely on a binary search to do it instead, rather than the previous linear search. This considerably boosts population speed for large folders here, while still preserving correct behavior.

Rene Gollent 3291c58044 Revert the PoseView change from r29190. This is incorrect since the outline setting only applies to the desktop poseviews, and is explicitly set there by the backgrounds settings code in BackgroundImage.cpp. This fixes the font rendering artifacts reported in ticket #3467.

Rene Gollent 95da064570 Some pose performance improvements by aldeck and myself: 
1) We don't need to call FindPose() on every pose as we're freshly adding it,
and a duplicate should never happen in this circumstance (the FindPose() is still there if
Tracker is compiled in debug mode however.
2) Adjust the FSClipboard calls such that the locking is optional. This allows us to lock
once per CreatePoses group rather than once per pose.

Together these changes make for a significant performance improvement when it comes to
populating a large folder.

Rene Gollent 1e5a02e76f Renamed usb_dev_info to listusb and made it more useful: 
By default it now presents a relatively concise list of USB
devices found on the bus, with an optional -v flag to dump
exhaustive detail. It still also takes an optional device 
parameter in case you only want information for a particular 
device.

Rene Gollent 42fe9293f8 Tracker now alters the cursor to indicate the resulting FS op when drag and dropping files. 
If the op is determined to be a copy, the copy cursor from Wonderbrush (thanks Stephan!) is
displayed. Otherwise, the default hand cursor is used to indicate move.

Rene Gollent 4c1a09d0cf Added a test that exposes a problem in BObjectList/PointerList. If a list contains 17 items or greater, and you attempt to sort it with a sort function that always returns 1 regardless of the items being compared, it will crash 100% of the time. Looking into why next.

Rene Gollent 6d344473e6 Fixed broken ternary logic in GenericAttributeText::Compare() that would result in the wrong value being returned when one or both attributes being compared were undefined. A symptom of this was the crash reported in ticket #2760. Leaving that ticket open for now though as returning the wrong value to the sort shouldn't have caused a crash regardless.

Rene Gollent db5b0bfcfe When drag and dropping a text file, Tracker would refuse to extract the text (and style attributes, if any) if the file in question didn't have both the text/plain filetype *and* Tracker's clipping attribute. Since I was unable to find any good reason whatsoever to check for the latter, I removed this. Fixes the reported problems where drag and dropping a file onto a BTextView would do nothing unless the clipping attribute existed as well.

Rene Gollent bdffbce7af Adjust ScreenSaverRunner to make the screen saver draw once before sleeping. This fixes the perceived black screen problem with the Message screensaver. Also cleaned up Message slightly to retrieve its string from fortune more cleanly, and readded it to the build since it will no longer deadlock the screensaver module for 30 seconds at a time.

Rene Gollent 27c43a2d8f Implement the missing pieces to handle per workspace display mode support. 
Adjust Workspace view to correctly scale each workspace based on the 
resolution of that workspace. This exposes one or two anomalies in other
places in the app_server code though which I wasn't able to track down.
This fixes ticket #693.

Rene Gollent 4f07e62e33 Break up the screen saver update interval into 50 msec ticks. This lets us quickly evaluate if it's time to exit the screen saver, which would previously have blocked until the tick interval was up. This fixes ticket #2339.
